Memories Made in Indonesia '24

We arrived at Solo Airport on the evening of October 25th, we were warmly welcomed by our kind student buddy, Rafly.

Following a fun-filled school tour at UMP and a shopping with our student buddies Nadia, Gatsa, Zidan, and Damar, we shared alunch together.

Before heading to our designated school, Mba Shofi kindly treated us to a delicious Indonesian porridge.

We visited SMP UMP, the school where Sheena and Larry will be residing, and received a warm welcome from the staff and students.

We proceeded to Puhua School, where RJ and I were assigned. We embarked on a school tour and had a meet-and-greet session with our cooperating teachers

On the same day, October 27th, we had a delightful lunch with Pak Saefforuhman, Pak Feisal, Pak Furqon, and Mba Shofi.

Daily commutes to our designated schools were enjoyable, offering opportunities to interact with friendly Indonesian drivers.

We had the opportunities to meet with the UMP students who will be participating in a student exchange program in the Philippines.

During my free time, I frequented the library to prepare my lesson plans.

In my asrama, I spent evenings crafting instructional materials from recycled materials.

Teaching Indonesian students is incredibly rewarding. Their eagerness to learn shines through, even with the language barrier.

Seeing students enjoy the class makes all the late-night prep worth it.

I had the opportunity to visit the mesmerizing Baturraden, one of the most captivating natural wonders in Central Java. As I wandered through its breathtaking landscapes, I couldn't help but marvel at the incredible forces that shaped this extraordinary place.

I had the privilege of celebrating Teacher's Day in Indonesia. My students surprised me with a heartfelt gift – a collection of notes and a beautiful handmade flower. Their thoughtfulness truly touched my heart and served as a powerful reminder of the profound impact we can have on our students' lives.

Pak Chondro treated us to a delicious meal at a fancy Japanese restaurant in Rita Mall, where I savored authentic raw salmon for the first time.

I'm truly amazed by the incredible unity of the Indonesian people in supporting their national football team against Japan. It's inspiring to witness such passionate and unwavering support.

To Ate Tin: Thank you for being more than just an Ate to us during our stay in Indonesia. You made us feel so welcome and at home, always taking such good care of us. Having you by our side made everything feel bearable, even when things got tough.

To Aisha, a Pakistani friend I never expected to find, thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping me find answers to my many questions. Our friendship is truly unexpected and I cherish it deeply.

To Mas Ambar: More than just the cleaner in asrama, you're a true friend. Your cheerful smile every morning brightens up our day. Thank you for your hard work and for always being so kind.
